Funny things in our Calli lily flowers?

We have Calli Lily%26#039;s (sp) in our garden and now some of the flowers are closing up and drooping over and are full of green nubs ( best way I could describe it ) kind of like buds inside the flower. What are these things inside the flower and what purpose do they serve?

Calla Lillies are big fat heavy flowers. Next time, use a stick, branch, or pipe cleaner to hold them up straight.

Reply:The green nub will produce the seed that you can plant later if you so desire. When handling these pods, make sure you wear gloves since these are noxious and can cause numbness to your hands. Best way to deal with these is to just cut them off and discard.
