Is this name too close to Ella or Lily?

My sister´s daughters names are so pretty, they are Ella and Lily.

We´ve chosen this girls name, and want to call her Ellie as a nickname-is this to close to Ella and Lily, or is it not?

The girl%26#039;s name Eliana \e-lia-na\ is pronounced el-ee-AH-nah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is %26quot;the Lord answers%26quot;. May also be related to the Greek %26quot;elios%26quot; meaning %26quot;god of the sun%26quot;, and the name may thus mean %26quot;daughter of the sun%26quot;.

Eliana has 9 variant forms: Eleana, Eli, Elia, Eliane, Elianna, Elianne, Elyana, Ileana and Liana.

Is this name too close to Ella or Lily?
i love it it%26#039;s beautiful and it%26#039;s not to close to either name there is a distinct diffence
Reply:beautiful name...do it...your sister shouldnt be angry at all...shell be fine
Reply:It is close but it your choice. BTW its such a beautiful name.
Reply:i like lily more.
Reply:That%26#039;s a pretty name. I like it spelled Elianna.
Reply:no i like it
Reply:Well, Ellie is smack between Ella and Lily, so if you live next door to your sis, it might get to be a bit much.

But assuming that you see each other somewhat less frequently, I can%26#039;t see any harm in having similarly named cousins.

Eliana is very pretty, and it%26#039;s no surprise that sisters would favor similar childrens%26#039; names.

Happy baby!
Reply:Anything with the planned nickname Ellie would obviously be too close to Ella for me. And since Eliana and Liliana always go hand-in-hand in my mind, I would immediately be reminded of Lily as well.

Have you considered a similar El- name that WOULDN%26#039;T have to use Ellie as the nickname? Eleanor or Elinora, for example, could simply go by Nell, Nelly or Nora. And Eloise could could be called Lulu or Lucy. Even if you just love Eliana, you might simply use Nell(y) or Annie for her, rather than snatching Ellie from your neice (because an Ella, by definition, might one day want to use Ellie ... just makes sense).
Reply:Such a bueatiful name... It is somewhat close it the names Elle and Lily, but there is a diffrence bewteen them. But you should not change it, and it is your pick anyway so name her the beautiful name, Eliana.
Reply:I do think Ellie is awfully close to Ella/Lily, but I don%26#039;t think Eliana is.

If the cousins will play together a lot, Ellie/Ella/Lily might get confusing. (Take it from a family with a Kim, a Jim, and a Tim. Technically they%26#039;re very different names, but the nicknames are hard to tell apart on the playground! I was constantly asking, %26quot;Did you call me?!%26quot;)

But, if the girls will only see each other occasionally, I don%26#039;t think it will be a big deal. And I think Ellie/Eliana is a beautiful name.
Reply:Well its like both ella and lily combined so yeah..
Reply:I don%26#039;t think it is. I think, of course it has some of the same letters...but is different %26amp; unique in it%26#039;s own way! It%26#039;s a beautiful name, really it is!
Reply:Actually, %26quot;helios%26quot; is the sun in greek and not god of teh sun, I don%26#039;t know where you seen that, but it%26#039;s false. I%26#039;m greek and I can tell you definately, not a greek name. However, Eleanna is a compilation of greek Eleni (Helen) and hebrew Anna (Hannah).

Eli is greek as well, although it is written Elli.

All of them are beautiful names, good luck!!!
Reply:Eliana%26#039;s nickname Ellie is a bit close to Ella and Lily, but you could easily have that name if you wanted.

Or you could use the form Liana.
Reply:Not at all, I think it%26#039;s cute. Plus, all three names will go together beautifully when you%26#039;re together with your sister. :) If she thinks it sounds too similar, you can call your daughter by her full name when you%26#039;re around her kids.
Reply:Ellie is similar to Ella and Lily, but I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s too close. And Eliana/Ellie is a very pretty name. Best wishes!!
Reply:I like Eleana or Liana. Ellie is close to Ella and Lily and could be confusing for other people to learn all the names.
Reply:Ella, Lily, Ellie! Ella, Lily, Ellie! Ella, Lily, Ellie!

Sounds like a tongue twister, doesn%26#039;t it?

Eliana is a beautiful name, but I think Ellie is too close to the names of your nieces.

Here are some other similar names that have just enough distinction that it would work: Emma, Lisa, and Laney.

Good luck and best wishes to you!
Reply:too close im afraid, my sister in laws daughter is called ellen, and i want to call our child, evie, or eve, or eilidh, or ella, but they are all just too close.
Reply:i love the name it does sound close to ella but not close to lily
Reply:I%26#039;d call her Eliana or Ellie for short. That way, you%26#039;ve combined both your nieces names into your daughters name. They should be honoured!

My boss%26#039;s daughter is Liani and her cousin is Jolani and their cousin is Elani.
